In January, we welcomed in the 2025 New Year with the incredibly tender “Arizona” from Indie Rock band Shefu, which was the last single released for their self-titled EP ‘Shefu’ which was released in March.
In short, this is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. In terms of sound, this song strays from the usual high energy Indie Rock sound of most of Shefu’s work, opting instead for a mesmerizing stripped back acoustic guitar melody which melts beautifully into lead vocalist Rose’s vocals.
The lyrics are incredibly poetic, with the song revolving around this idea of “Arizona” being used as a metaphor for being set free from the constraints of the life of a wallflower. The words are soft, patient and polite, which can be heard throughout the whole song, but especially in the chorus: “Patiently waiting/ to give my permission/ for Arizona to kick my ass”.
