Things are ready to pop for Funk & Soul project Stereo Rose as they join forces with vinyl DJ collective Funk Yeah! in Manchester’s The Rat & Pigeon, for a night that’s really gonna put the fun in Funk! What is set to be quite possibly the most exciting event in the North West Funk scene in recent times, The Rat & Pigeon will see Stereo Rose joined by an impressive lineup of up-and-coming Funk & Soul bands, with an afterparty featuring live vinyl DJs to play us away into the night!
Stereo Rose is the vibrant soul project of Elliot Gaspar, (Limbo Days) and Georgie Weston, that takes inspiration from the groove and high energy rhythm of classic Soul. After supporting each other as part of their solo projects, Gaspar and Weston began to meet and write together, and so Stereo Rose was born. Despite their extensive body of work consisting only of unreleased demos, Stereo Rose have already done quite well for themselves, with a by-popular-demand monthly Funk & Soul night, “Funki-Fi”, in Liverpool’s own iconic Jacaranda and support slots for the likes of MT Jones, which have put their name on the map and uncovered the true potential of Stereo Rose. Since then the pieces have really started falling into place.
The Vinyl DJ collective hosting February’s show is also a venture set about by Gaspar after discovering his passion of live vinyl DJing. With the abundance of Northern Soul related events happening in Manchester, he saw an opportunity as the Funk & Soul genre remained relatively unexplored. So armed with a vinyl collection and a can-do attitude he assembled his gang of vinyl DJs and hit the streets of Manchester, the success of which has led to monthly events, a residency at The Rat & Pigeon and a greater demand for these kinds of events.
Joining Stereo Rose for the live performances (7pm - 10pm) will be Good King Steady, Midnight Matters as well as the Funk Yeah! vinyl DJs and a special DJ set from Alistair Hall, owner of the wonderful Vinyl Resting Place in Manchester, for an afterparty 10pm - late. If you are ready to get your groove on, tickets are only £7 (or free after 10pm for the vinyl sets!). Mark your calendars for February 8th and find the link for tickets below!
