I am Kat, welcome to Bonus Track Music Magazine. This is a music blog where I will be sharing my thoughts, opinions and general musical obsessions. But first thing's first, a little about me...
Like anyone that hails from a 100 mile radius of the Merseyside, my first memory of music is the sound of The Beatles Anthologies from the CD player in the kitchen. I really started to develop my music taste when I was around 10, when I started listening to the likes of Thirty Seconds to Mars and Kings of Leon, naturally copying my mum's music taste and passing it as my own.
Then came what I would refer to as THE moment, when I got my Sony Walkman MP4 player in a lovely pinkish metallic hue, I had now been given the ultimate power to listen to music at any time and location I wished, now it doesn't seem like a lot, but at the time it was basically all the power in the universe. I used it up until I went to college and even now it sits in the back of a drawer somewhere calling my name.
In this time, I went through so many stages, so many genres, so many artists, ranging from Nickelback to Pixies to Keaton Henson (and the emo stage I'd rather not talk about). I found music mostly from the music TV channels and the recommendations on YouTube, and of course whatever my various crushes were listening to.
I went to college and initially bonded with people through the kind of music I liked, that had at that point developed into an actual taste and not just a variety show of every artist who had ever made music. Going to an art college meant that I met a lot of people who had creative ties to music in some kind of a way, whether they directed music videos, produced music, or played it with their friends, I was immersed in it.
Then we have another moment: The decision to date indie boys in bands. Now this may have led to many a broken heart (and somehow not a single song about it) but it did introduce me to the local indie scene. These gigs with surprisingly good music in tiny packed out venues, where everyone smells like cigarettes and tastes like wine.
And now we have arrived at the present moment, I still spend all of my spare time listening and exploring music and now has come time to share it.
I hope you enjoy what's to come,
Kat xx
